Tsinghua University Library Hosts Expert Symposium on "Safeguarding academic integrity in the era of AI-powered science publishing"

On the afternoon of 9 November,Tsinghua University Library and the Tsinghua University Committee on Technology Ethics co-hosted an symposium titled "Safeguarding Academic Integrity in the Era of AI-Powered Science Publishing" .Jin Jianbin, Director of Tsinghua University Library, and Prof. Bernhard Sabel from Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg,Germany,provided detailed interpretations on the recently officially released "Reformation of Science Publishing: The Stockholm Declaration" (hereinafter "the Declaration"), which aims to advance the reform of the global scientific publishing system. Nine participating experts and scholars engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanged views on the related topics.

Symposium Scene

The drafting of the Declaration was jointly initiated by Dan Larhammar, former President of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, and Prof. Bernhard Sabel. It was drafted through discussions among 25 scholars from eight countries, including China, and was formally publishedin theRoyal Society Open Scienceon5November. The Declaration explicitly calls for fundamental reform of the scientific publishing system to address the growing challenge of academic misconduct and to support the reconstruction of the research integrity system.

Experts and scholars from various units of Tsinghua University participated in the symposium, including the Department of Computer Science and Technology, the School of Public Policy and Management, the School of Marxism, the School of Journalism and Communication, the Tsinghua University Library, and Tsinghua University Press.
