As the saying goes, "the library is the heart of the university." Founded in 1912, Tsinghua University Library has stood at the heart of the University's academic life for more than a century. From the construction of the Old Library in 1916 to the completion of the North Library in 2016, its Main Building has taken shape through the successive contributions of three distinguished architects—Henry Killam Murphy (1877–1954), Yang Tingbao (1901–1982), and Guan Zhaoye (1929–2022). Their designs, spanning a century, form a harmonious whole that reflects both continuity and renewal. The castle-like elegance of the Old Library, the stately West Library, and the bright, contemporary North Library have inspired generations of Tsinghua students in their intellectual and personal growth. Within these halls, they have cultivated a sense of responsibility for the nation and the world, pursued excellence with determination, and embraced lives of dedication and service.

In 2026, the global geopolitical landscape, the higher education ecosystem, frontier intelligent technologies, and the scholarly information infrastructure are all undergoing profound transformation. Amid these changes, Tsinghua University Library remains committed to innovation while staying true to its enduring mission. Centered on the University's missions of talent cultivation, scientific research, social service, cultural heritage, and international exchange and cooperation, we will continue to advance the development of a world-class university library in support of Tsinghua's pursuit of excellence.
